Vintage Emeraude.

Came home from work today to find two packages from ebay! One is another mini of Nuits Indiennes. Oh, how I long for a big bottle of that one!! And the other is a small half bottle of vintage Emeraude EDT.
I was surprised at my own reaction when I opened the bottle. I got the biggest grin... and I just couldn't stop!  Even though I was worried that some of the notes had gone off, the fragrance somehow still made me happy. Isn't that the way with old perfumes?  I have a vague memory of there being an odd start to this anyway. But couldn't quite place it. Its been a LONG time since I wore any. Like the early 70's! I fell for Emeraude when I was still a kid.  There are definite pluses to growing up around a lot of older women ~ one is my taste in perfume. I was probably the only nine year old around with a deep love of all things chypre.
So anyway! The bottle brought back memories, yet it smelled odd, almost medicinal. Oh well, I HAD to try it on!!! Thats the only way to tell for certain. The strange note was still there. Why was I thinking of some Grandpa's barber shop? Huh?  But after ten to twenty minutes I finally took a sniff of my wrist...... and THERE IT WAS!!!! EMERAUDE!
Yes, some of the top notes had fallen during its passage through the years. But inside this little bottle the heart of the fragrance still beat steady. Strong yet gentle. Its resinous warmth rising softly up from my skin. Exotic woods with just the right touch of floral. Delicate amber and vanilla. Not too sweet, mind you. An even more delicate, lacy edging of tart citrus. And I'd forgotten how powdery soft Emeraude was. What a joy!       Three hours later, its fading away. But it is an EDT, after all. But you know what? I'm still smiling!!!
